Rumor: Skype for iPhone nearly ready

VOIP for iPhone is the dream of many a user, and Om Malik suggests that it might be days away. Citing a "...very reliable source," Om says that Skype is ready to launch their iPhone app, perhaps at next week's CTIA Wireless event.

That's whole lot of "suggests" and "might" and "perhaps," is it not? Frankly, I don't see why Apple or AT&T would be keen on Skype for the iPhone or iPod touch. Of course, here are other VOIP options available, like fring and iCall (among others), so what do I know? It's an interesting rumor, but for now, that's all.

Reiterating facts from circulating reports, Apple has confirmed that shoppers can now pick up an unlimited number of contract-free iPhones from Apple Stores. The shift in policy mirrors one announced by AT&T, except that the carrier limits purchases to one contract-free phone per existing subscriber. Both Apple and AT&T prices are set at $599 for an 8GB phone, and $699 for 16GB. A two-year cont...

A Week of Memory, Malware, MacBooks and Marble
It's been a relatively quiet week for the Apple-focused blogosphere. Apple did announce the dates for its Worldwide Developers Conference, which is set for June 8-12 in San Francisco. WWDC just so happens to the be the venue in which Apple is widely expected to release its next version of Mac OS X -- "Snow Leopard" -- which may be prettier than expected. Meanwhile, Apple quietly added an option to double the memory in its 15-inch MacBook Pros, and a security company caught some nasty OS X malware on video.

i.TV 1.4 adds U-verse support, speed enhancements
i.TV has launched version 1.4 of its TV and movie guide for the iPhone and iPod touch. The update provides AT&T U-verse listings for all coverage areas, and more support for Comcast customers, including video-on-demand information and other material. Stability and speed improvements have also been made; the latter cut the start-up time for the app roughly in half, and double active running speed....
